There are fears parts of the state could be hit by flash flooding amid warnings of another heavy deluge predicted tonight, despite blue skies this afternoon.

The rain is expected to redevelop later today and multiple dangerous and life-threatening flood warnings have been issued.

424mm of rain was recorded in one location.

The chance of flash flooding is high with the catchments saturated.

The search is also continuing for a man missing at Greens Creek, after his motorbike was found in floodwaters.

QFES Commissioner Greg Leach said it has been a very busy 24 hours, with intense overnight rain that lead to dangerous flash flooding in the Gympie, Noosa and Sunshine Coast areas early this morning.

“It is just a lull, and we are expecting the rainfall to intensify again tonight and continue into tomorrow,” he told Scott Emerson.

“The main areas of concern for tonight from Double Island Point near Rainbow Beach right through to Toowoomba and down to the Main Range National Park around Warwick and all of those areas in central south-east Queensland.”

He said the message to people is to prepare for whatever might come tonight with predictions of large rainfall tonight.

Nine News weatherman Garry Youngberry said to receive that amount of rainfall in such a short time was “incredible”.

“That is just the start of it, we are expecting that again over a six hour period as we move into this evening.

“I think the next 24 hours we should see just as heavy falls if not heavier, and again into Friday as well.”
