The ‘incredible’ story of how a ‘bunch of mates’ saved an Airlie Beach restaurant

MML

What do a V8 supercar driver, an intensive care nurse, a builder and a chef have in common?

An ‘incredible’ story out of Airlie Beach has seen a “bunch of mates” come together to keep a business on its feet.

Seafood restaurant Fish D’Vine was left with just one floor staff member, two bar staff and three chefs to cater for hundreds of patrons.

Owner Kevin Collins told Scott Emerson a chat with a group of customers changed his luck for the better.

“[I] was just chatting about how we were going to close … Thursday because I didn’t have enough staff,” he said.

“Off the cuff, they said ‘We’ll come work for you, we’ll work for nothing!'”

It wasn’t until the next day he learned just who he had recruited…!
