Scott Emerson has an ideal candidate in mind as an international search gets underway to find the president of Brisbane’s Olympic Games organising committee.

It’s understood an agency appointed by the Queensland government will be undertaking a search for the top job.

“It is good to search the world for this key role,” the 4BC Drive host said.

“But I reckon we already have an obvious candidate on our doorstep.

“Mark Stockwell, Brisbane born and three-time Olympic swimming medallist, member of the ‘Mean Machine’.

“He’s [not just] a superb and successful swimmer but also a successful businessman and sports administrator.”

He urged the government not to “forget your own backyard”.

“I think a lot of weight should be given to someone who knows, lives and loves Brisbane.”
