The Coalition’s plan to weed out failing student teachers
The Coalition has pledged to introduce a mandatory literacy and numeracy test for would-be teaching students.
Currently, teaching students only need to pass the exam by the end of their degree.
Acting federal Education Minister Stuart Robert told Neil Breen the government is committed to improving Australia’s teaching standards.
“With 10 per cent of our students in university not passing it three times, … I’ll bring this, as part of the accreditation standard, … right at the very start.
“That way, they don’t go and do four years of learning at university, only not to graduate.”
