More than half of Generation Z would quit school or their job to become an influencer if they could, new research says.

Behavioural analysis of Australians aged between 15 and 40 set out to map the nation’s influencer economy and wound up with some interesting results.

Social media content creation has taken over as the most appealing career option for an entire generation, with 55 per cent of Generation Z saying they would leave their job to be an influencer.

Millennials weren’t far off, with 43 per cent saying they’d also be interested in ditching their day job for a social media career.

“It’s a serious business, despite what older people might think about it,” Sofie Formica remarked. “Someone with 50,000 followers can earn up to $100,000 per year.”

But the rise of influencers hasn’t just impacted Gen Z’s dream jobs, theoz.com.au editor Elye Popplewell says.

“This isn’t just people in high school, this is people in their thirties and even in their forties as well, who are saying that they are influenced by influencers.
