The Bribie Island ‘opportunity’ the Moreton Bay Mayor doesn’t want to miss
The fight is on to save the Bribie Island Bridge ahead of the potential construction of a four-lane passageway to the island.
While residents agree the new bridge is “definitely needed” to prevent traffic dramas from siphoning off access to the island, Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery says that doesn’t mean the existing bridge has to go.
“If this asset is in a reasonable standard, let’s keep it as a pedestrian bridge,” he told Laurel, Gary & Mark.
“It can be a green bridge where people from Bribie Island want to get on their scooters and go across to the Sandstone Point [Hotel] to watch Jimmy Barnes or something.
“It’s an opportunity we don’t want to miss.”
