The Australian connection in King Charles’ historic coronation

Luke Bradnam

Buckingham Palace has released more details about the coronation of King Charles III, which will take place in just over three weeks.

The first coronation in 70 years will see the new sovereign crowned in a service at Westminster Abbey on May 6 and two processions through London.

UK correspondent Adam Gilchrist told Luke Bradnam there will be an Australian connection, with a modern horse-drawn coach.

“Whilst King Charles will still take the gold coach that his mum used, and that has been used by Queen Victoria and I think ever since, it’s a bone shaker,” he said.

“So he’s decided rather than go for that, going to Westminster Abbey, he would opt for a bit of comfort.”
