STUMPS

The second Ashes Test is finely poised after an absorbing opening day in Adelaide.

Australia finished at 4/209, with Shaun Marsh (20*) and Peter Handscomb (36*) seeing the Aussies safely through to stumps.

The highlight for England was debutant Craig Overton claiming the prized wicket of Steve Smith. James Anderson and Chris Woakes also took a wicket each, while the latter was also involved in the runout that claimed Cameron Bancroft’s wicket.

The inaugural men’s day-night Ashes test match is finally here!

Australia arrive in Adelaide full of confidence on the back of a comprehensive 10-wicket win against England in Brisbane earlier this week. On the flipside, the aftermath of England’s loss on the field has been overshadowed by events off it. The fallout of the now infamous pre-series incident between English wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow and Aussie opening batter Cameron Bancroft has dominated headlines since the first test concluded.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes has flown to New Zealand and will play club cricket on Sunday for Canterbury as he awaits news on whether he’ll be eligible to play for England in the coming tests.

Australia will be hoping their fast bowlers cause havoc under lights with the pink ball while England will see the Adelaide test as an opportunity to square the series in favourable conditions as the daunting prospect of a WACA test in Perth looms.

Join us on 5AA in Adelaide, 4BC in Brisbane, NTS Digital or the Cricket Australia website/app as we bring you all the action from the opening day’s play at Adelaide Oval.
