There’s been a huge increase in the number of school staff claiming compensation for emotional and psychological trauma.

A report in The Daily Telegraph shows nearly 700 workers’ compensation claims were filed last year in NSW, up 20 per cent from 2015.

It comes as teachers face an increasing amount of violent incidents in the workplace, as well as excessive workloads and pressure from parents.

Former Labor Education spokesman Jihad Dib tells Natalie Peters and Erin Molan teachers are facing enormous pressure from all sides.

“People just think that it’s fair game to go in and just start abusing a teacher because they’re not happy with what’s happening with their kid.

“The one thing that people don’t appreciate about teachers is the amount of work that they do outside of their working hours.”
