The risk of blackouts across the state was averted last night but there could still be challenging days ahead.

Queenslanders were yesterday asked to conserve their electricity consumption as the prospect of possible outages was raised.

But the regulator ended up using its powers to order electricity generators to produce enough supply to meet consumer demand.

Powerlink Queensland CEO Paul Simshauser told Neil Breen it will be another ‘tight’ evening tonight.

“It will require those directions to the gas generator again,” he said.

“The interesting thing about this evening, I suppose is you’ve got a very similar situation happening simultaneously in NSW.

“Our two power systems are of course connected by the Queensland – New South Wales Interconnector.

“The coordination of those directions will be important.”
