Australia’s beloved Olympic gold medallist Steven Bradbury has become a hero of a different kind after saving four girls from drowning.

Bradbury had been out on the water near Caloundra with his 12-year-old so Flyn when he spotted a swimmer struggling in the water.

He told Neil Breen he launched into action straight away, taking his son’s board to help buoy the girl.

“[I] paddled out to find there wasn’t one girl out there, there was four,” he said.

“As soon as I got there, they all scrambled onto the board and with three of them on it, I couldn’t get us onto a wave to get us in.

“None of them wanted to let go of the board, so we were just stuck there, getting pounded by wave after wave.”
