State accused of ‘favouritism’ in wagering licence regime overhaul

Gary Hardgrave

The peak body representing online bookmakers has accused the state government of favouritism over changes to the wagering licence regime.

Queensland last week became the first state to lift the point of consumption tax to 20 per cent.

That change is expected be a boon for Tabcorp, with a reduction in other fees and taxes to hand the company around $30 million annually.

Responsible Wagering Australia boss Justin Madden told Neil Breen the state government has played favouritism.

“We feel like we’ve been left out of all discussions and then there’s been favouritism to Tabcorp,” he said.

“Normally you’d consult right across industry and we haven’t been consulted.”
