Special tribute to famous footy family fighting MND

This Saturday, an unusual but special statue will be erected in a small country town in the NSW Central West.

A giant AFL football will be unveiled in Ungarie to honour four legends of the code, the Daniher brothers.

Terry, Neale, Chris & Anthony played 752 AFL and VFL games between them, but the statue has added significance in its support of the fight against Motor Neurone Disease.

Neale was diagnosed with the terminal condition in 2013, with the touching tribute to raise awareness and funds for Fight MND.

Ray speaks with Terry Daniher ahead of the unveiling, asking how much the support for Neale means to the family.

“We’re chipping away at it and you’re dead right, you’ve got to keep the awareness out there.

“We’re hoping for a good roll-up.”

As a staunch Rugby League man, Ray had to ask how four New South Wales boys managed to be swayed by the dark side.

“The Rugby League boys tried hard… they tried to get ’em out of town but you wouldn’t believe it Ray, we turned the cards and put Rugby League out of business.”
