Police are investigating after a Southport chemist was robbed at gunpoint overnight.

At around 9.50pm, a man armed with a firearm entered the Nerang Street premises, demanding money and prescription medication from the store attendant.

The man left with cash and was last seen running in an easterly direction along Nerang Street.

The store attendant was not injured in the incident.
