South-east Queensland is in for a hot and humid couple of days as a tropical heatwave sets in.

Temperatures will be at least 5 degrees above the February average, combined with high humidity levels.

Brisbane could reach 35 degrees today and tomorrow, while Ipswich is heading for a top of 37.

Goondiwindi is set to swelter to 40 degrees.

Humidity will hit around 90 per cent later this morning, which will make it feel even warmer, the Bureau of Meteorology says.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk urged people to check on their family members and elderly neighbours.

“We do expect to see the peak of use of our energy supplies this evening,” she said.

“So please listen, there maybe some message asking you not to use your dryers or pool filters during the peak.

“But that will come out from Energex later in the day.”

Queensland Ambulance Service advanced care paramedic encouraged people to stay inside in the hottest part of the day, given the warnings from the BoM.

She also shared the signs of heatstroke.
