South-east Queensland set to hit Omicron peak within 7 days, CHO says

Chief Heath Officer Dr John Gerrard says different parts of the state will experience their COVID-19 peaks at different stages.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said authorities believed Gold Coast had hit its peak.

Queensland today recorded 13,551 new COVID-19 cases, as well as 9 deaths.

47 people are in ICU, 15 on ventilators.

Speaking in Townsville, Dr Gerrard said they expected Townsville’s numbers to peak in the next 2 weeks.

“We expect that peak in other regions of Queensland most notably in the rest of south-east Queensland to be some time in the next 7 days, we expect the numbers to peak in metro Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, west Moreton, Ipswich, probably some time in the next 7 days.”
