“Sometimes I think I shouldn’t even be here”: Melbourne forward Max King

Melbourne forward Max King says he still has to pinch himself when thinking about being just one game from a Grand Final.

Max made the switch from the Gold Coast Titans to Melbourne Storm mid season, debuting in round 23…when his new team defeated his old team 24-8.

Last night, Melbourne thrashed Parramatta 32-0 taking them one step closer to yet another NRL Grand Final, with Max coming off the bench in the first half.

Despite his proven skill on the field, and his popularity with fans off the field, he says he still pinches himself.

“Running out last night…sometimes I think I shouldn’t even be here!”

“I’m very grateful to the Melbourne Storm for investing their trust in me.”

But Max comes from a family of superstar players.

He’s the fourth generation of the King family to play first grade; his great-grandfather is Cec King, grandfather is Johnny King and dad is David King.

But according to Max, he didn’t always possess the NRL prowess he does now.

“I was a bit of a late developer.”
