Sofie Formica wins national gong at radio’s night of nights

4bc news

4BC Afternoons host Sofie Formica has claimed one of the top awards at Australian radio’s night of nights.

Sofie was named Best Newcomer On-Air at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, recognition for her first full year behind the microphone at Brisbane’s favourite Talk station.

“I feel a little vindicated, it’s difficult to start a new career when you are middle aged, and I had my 50th birthday on the radio,” Sofie shared on 4BC Afternoons today.

“I am trying to fly the flag … for anybody listening who sometimes wonders whether or not they can translate skills they have acquired over decades of experience, and apply them in a completely different environment.”

It was part of a record-breaking night for Nine Radio, which scored nine gongs across its network, including 4BC.

“This is a record number of wins for the teams across 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR, and is testament to the incredible calibre of people we have both on and off air, who continue to set the news agenda and drive it forward every day – they’re the best in the business,” Nine Radio Managing Director Tom Malone said.

“I’m incredibly proud of all of our winners and nominees. They live and breathe our live and local strategy, which is clearly resonating with Australians. They work tirelessly to put our listeners first, provide them a safe and trusted source of information, and bring the very best news, sport, entertainment, weather, traffic and talk to our local communities across the country. Congrats!”
