Sofie Formica details off-air discussion with Mike Summerell
A former Queensland state archivist Mike Summerell has released a statement backing calls for an independent inquiry over integrity matters within the State government.
The former bureaucrat has spoken to 4BC Afternoons host Sofie Formica off-air through text message, stating why he decided to come out now with the complaints made towards the government.
“Somebody said to me recently that if no one stands up, nothing will change, and that really resonated with me,” Mike Summerell told Formica over message.
“I think there is absolutely no chance of change without legislative reform. The legislation I worked with was absolutely inadequate. There was so many holes in it that it is totally unfit for purpose.”
“The need to refresh all of the integrity legislation is long overdue. Technology has moved so fast just being one factor.
