Sofie Formica defends officers who pulled tasers over traffic infringement

Sofie Formica has defended two officers at the heart of a confrontation over a traffic infringement that saw tasers drawn on a man.
Police vision obtained by 9News shows officers speaking to a man about a driving offence when the situation escalated.
The man is seen closing a gate on police before the male officer accuses him of clenching his fists and “shaping up to us”.

The officers have received widespread backlash for the response, which the man’s lawyer described as “not justified in the circumstances”.
After watching the vision herself, Sofie believes the man may have escalated the situation early on.
“But at what point do we not just pay some respect to those who are our law enforcement officers?” she asked.
“At no point were police asking him for anything other than to speak to him about the infringement notice.
“I would just think that in society, it seems we have a complete lack of respect for men and women in blue and it leads quickly to these situations.”
