Single noise complaint threatens to call time on 40-year touch footy tradition

peter fegan

A group of men who’ve been playing amateur touch football at Graceville Memorial Oval for nearly 40 years have been warned by the local council of one noise complaint.

They meet a couple of mornings a week to play.

Peter Fegan, filling in on Brisbane Live, has also taken part in the friendly games.

Prominent Brisbane barrister Bobby Myers is among the group of men involved, and said it gives the guys a chance to have a chat with friends, as well as keep active.

In their nearly 35 years of playing, they’ve never received any complaints.

“There might be the occasional voice raised, but we are getting on towards 40 years now and in all of that time, I have never heard of a complain of this sort,” he told Peter Fegan.

He said it would be a “terrible day” if they had to finish up.

They are waiting to hear from council on what happens next.
