Party leaders are hitting the hustings this morning after a date was finally set for the federal election.

Australians will head to the polls on May 21 – a day which Liberal ministers have described as a choice for all Australians.

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham told Spencer Howson voters already know his party’s priorities.

“I think Australians will come in and focus more closely on that choice over the period between now and May 21,” he said.

“Crucially, that’s a choice between Liberals and Nationals with a plan that is working.

“The risk, though, is that they don’t know much about the Labor policies and that’s where we will welcome the scrutiny on the Labor Party.”

With early voting opening from May 9, Mr Birmingham says the Liberal Party’s strategy is consistency.

“We’ll certainly be making sure that we continue to sell those messages hard.”
