A burglar who has spent most of his life in jail has been handed another prison sentence after robbing 11 homes in a month.

Police nabbed Aaron Peter James Wilson after his spree targeting homes across Brisbane’s northern outskirts, where he took more than $271,450 worth of goods.

The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to 10 counts of burglary and stealing and four counts of fraud when he fronted court on Monday and was sentenced to six years’ prison.

He was immediately eligible for parole, having already served 653 days in custody, but will remain in jail, pending any application for release.

“I’ve got to say I’m not surprised by it,” criminology expert Terry Goldsworthy told Dan Nolan on 4BC Summer Drive. “It’s quite often the way it works out.

“The Queensland Sentencing Council looked at about 10 years’ worth of data for people who commit burglaries and the same type of offences as this fellow did.

“What they found for adult offenders was less than half of them went to prison and of those who were in prison, the average imprisonment period was 1.5 years.”
