Shane Warne memorial: A send-off to the spin king
Shane Warne will be given a fitting farewell tonight at the MCG where he captivated crowds as one of Australia’s greatest ever cricketers.
Around 50,000 are expected to attend the public memorial tonight.
A minute’s silence will take place just before 7pm AEDT, when the service gets underway.
There will be video tributes from music icons like Elton John and Robbie Williams, as well as legends of sport like Brian Lara and Greg Norman.
Warne’s children Brooke, Jackson and Summer will unveil the Great Southern Stand’s new name — The Shane Warne Stand.
In Queensland, the event will be broadcast on major television network channels – including 9Gem – from 6pm local time.
3AW sports reporter Eddie Summerfield is at the ‘G and crossed to Scott Emerson.
