State records a further two deaths amid flood crisis
An eighth person has died in the state’s flood crisis.
Police say a man and his dog died after his car was swept up by floodwaters in the Currumbin Valley this morning.
Around 3am, police were called to the scene following reports of a car in trouble near Stackpole Street.
Devastating scenes here at Currumbin Valley after a man, believed to be in his 50s, and his dog were located deceased inside this vehicle.
The car had to be towed out of the creek running behind this road.

It’s understood the car was driven up to 40 metres in to the water.
Nine News Reporter Mackenzie Colahan told Sofie Formica rescue crews weren’t able to get to the vehicle until hours later.
“That’s horrible news,” he said.

EARLIER
A man has died after coming into trouble in floodwaters at Fitzgibbon yesterday.
Around 4.15pm, the 59-year-old Carseldine man was attempting to cross Cabbage Tree Creek Road on foot when he was swept away by floodwaters.
Two members of the public raised the alarm with police and emergency services and conducted CPR.
He died at the scene despite efforts from emergency services to save him.
Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll told Neil Breen the man had become trapped against a fence.
