Senator warns tensions with China to continue ‘for some years to come’
There are warnings tensions with China in the Pacific could continue for years to come.
The Prime Minister will today announce a $428 million plan to improve the capability of four strategic airbases.
Senator James Paterson told Neil Breen the investment is necessary to protect Australia’s interests in the Pacific.
“I think the situation we’re in with China is going to be the case for some years to come,” he said.
“What that requires of Australia is strength. It requires very serious military capability, it requires us to be very clear about our intent.
“That’s what this government has delivered.”
