Asylum seekers deemed ‘high-risk’ could still come to Australia under new medivac laws.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is visiting Christmas Island and is expected to officially announce that high-risk detainees who apply for medical transfers will first be sent there.

They will be medically assessed at the offshore detention centre, and will only come to the mainland if they require further, more specialised medical attention.

Some of the 57 men deemed a risk are accused of murder, terrorist activity and paedophilia.

Liberal Senator Jim Molan tells Chris Smith he “totally agrees” that none of the men should be allowed to set foot on Australian soil.

“This is the result of Labor’s law.”
