Revealed: Regions hit hardest by Queensland floods

MML

The NRMA has revealed the worst-hit regions by recent flooding, saying it was the worst autumn for “wild weather” damage in Queensland in five years.

The Gold Coast topped the list making up 15.3 per cent of claims, followed closely by the Sunshine Coast with 13.1 per cent.

Logan, Beaudesert, Brisbane’s south and Ipswich rounded out the list.

NRMA Insurance executive general manager of direct claims Luke Gallagher told Scott Emerson the majority of all claims made by Queenslanders were due to storms.

“65 per cent of all Queensland home claims were as a result of severe weather this autumn, and that’s up from 48 per cent previously,” he said on 4BC Drive.

However, he added that Queensland were also the state best prepared to deal with such events.

“Queenslanders – surprisingly, but once again pleasingly – are most prepared for wild weather and severe conditions.

“And they’ve also expressed extreme concern regarding the changing climate and the impact that that’s having on the frequency and severity of disasters.”
