After the retirement of Greg Inglis, questions have been raised over whether Rugby League has become too physically demanding.

A News Corp investigation has revealed players’ weights have exploded in recent years, up 20 to 30kgs on average.

64 players have already been seriously injured after just five rounds of the NRL.

Retired premiership winner Jamie Soward tells John Stanley it’s become harder for smaller players to compete.

“It’s like a car accident pretty much every time these big boys go into each other.

“They are athletes rather than footballers. I was probably one of the last footballers.

“I was lucky I had Beau Scott as my protector. I was the Whitney Houston and he was Kevin Costner. He was the bodyguard,” he laughs.
