Remembering Queen Elizabeth II’s visits to Queensland

Dean & Sofie

Queen Elizabeth II visited Australia 16 times between 1954 and 2011, and visited Queensland eight times.

She was the first reigning monarch to visit the country.

Today reporter Jess Millward told Laurel, Gary & Mark the Queen seemed to have a soft spot for the Sunshine State.

“That’s when she said the iconic words, ‘I know you like to call your state the Sunshine State, but I prefer to think of it as its original name, Queensland’.

“I reckon that was an indicator, right there, that we were her favourite state, for sure.”
