Macadamia growers are urging shoppers to pop macadamias in their trolleys ahead of a predicted record crop.

It’s predicted 60,000 tonnes of nut-in-shell will be harvested in this year’s season.

It comes after farmgate prices tumbled from a record $6.20 per kilogram in 2020 to $2.50 per kilogram last year.

Queensland grower Michael McMahon said high rainfall totals created perfect conditions for the crops.

“We are staring down the barrel of some lower prices at the moment,”  he told Bill McDonald on Brisbane Live.

“We’re really looking for some strong support from the Aussie consumers this year and in the years to come.”
