RACQ hails proposed slowdown laws for roadside incidents

The state’s peak motoring body has welcomed proposed laws that would require drivers to slow down or stop around crashes.
The Palaszczuk government has just wrapped up industry consultation on the legislation.
RACQ spokesperson Glenn Toms says it can be extremely dangerous for roadside workers and emergency responders, especially heading into the busy festive season.
“Traffic passing by at 80, 90 or 110 kilometres an hour is a dangerous place to be,” he said.
“Traffic volumes can either move over or slow down and it provides a much safer location for the general public that are on the side of the road, potentially with a flat tyre or any other issue.”
