Question mark over hackers holding Medibank Private to ransom
Hackers claiming to have stolen data from Medibank Private are threatening to sell customer information unless a ransom is paid.
The group claims it has information about sensitive health conditions and credit card details.
Medibank has not been able to verify the authenticity of the threats, but says it is taking them seriously.
“There was absolutely a breach of some sort at Medibank, there’s no doubt about that,” tech expert Trevor Long told Laurel, Gary & Mark.
“But they didn’t believe [the hackers] had got customer information, so it could be 50:50 right now, as to whether this is genuine ransom or someone playing games.
“We have to take it seriously because it was a genuine cyber attack, we just don’t know if they really got information.”
