Fortitude Valley, Bowen Hills, Herston and Newstead have been ranked some of Brisbane’s most dangerous suburbs.

But Cairns has taken the title as Queensland’s crime hotspot, recording more than 4000 offences, followed by the Toowoomba region, with just over 3000.

Brisbane and inner suburbs were ranked third.

According to the analysis of police data by QUT, the offences included crimes such as theft, drug use and unlawful entry.

It also found that smaller towns are generally safer, while suburbs with public transport hubs were are likely to attract criminal and anti-social behaviour.
