Queensland has recorded its deadliest day of the pandemic, with 24 deaths in 24 hours.

16 of those were in aged care.

Another 6902 new cases have been reported today.

There are 44 people in ICU, while hospitalisations are down to 628.

Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard said they don’t expect a spike when international borders re-open.

“The number of international arrivals is very small compared with the number of cases we’ve seen in the population of Queensland.

“We think so far by the end of February it will be 1-2 million Queenslanders that will have been infected by the virus.”

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk thanked Defence Minister Peter Dutton for sending in troops to help with the aged care sector.
