Queensland budget: Scott Emerson grills Treasurer over new taxes in fiery clash
Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick insists he hasn’t broken any promises in this year’s state budget, despite coal royalties increasing.
But the Treasurer said that promise never applied to that sector.
“If they thought that promise applied to (coal companies) they wouldn’t have campaigned all the way through the election – all the way to the day of the election – they were demanding the government not increase coal royalties,” he said on 4BC Drive.
“We did not agree, we kept to our ten year promise and the proof is in what the companies did.”

Meanwhile, shadow treasurer David Janetzki described the Treasurer’s stance as “embarrassing”.
“I’ve found 26 times where the Treasurer promise no new or increased taxes,” he said on 4BC Drive.
“And that was in the leadup to the last election, he even announced the costings – the big announcement just before the election – he said it repeatedly since, both inside the parliament and outside.
“So yeah, it is becoming embarrassing for the Treasurer denying he actually said it.”
