QRL’s equal pay deal ‘the biggest step’ for women’s team, head coach says

Queensland Rugby League has announced equal pay for its female and male Origin stars.
Women’s players will now earn $15,000, the same as the men’s match fee.
Equal Origin remuneration is a first for the game.
Women’s head coach Tahnee Norris is hoping it brings an end to the game’s stars missing out on representing their state.
“That journey that we’ve been on where, to even represent at a World Cup, we had to pay the whole thing and girls were taking loans out to try and get there and some of them would lose their job because they couldn’t take the time off work.
“To be able to get to this point where we’re on equal pay standing with the men, I just think it’s the biggest step in the right direction.”

Peter commended the decision, saying it’s magnificent to see.
“I can tell you that the numbers on Nine are massive for the Women’s Origin.
“They’ve got great crowds the last couple of years on the Sunshine Coast.”
