‘Put this crap to the side’: Neil Breen demands answers for decades-old questions
A review will look into south-east Queensland’s deadly floods to consider the adequacy of emergency responses.
Inspector-General of Emergency Management Alistair Dawson is seeking public submissions to establish whether residents were let down.
“What we’ve been let down by is a lack of flood mitigation,” Neil Breen said. “This time around will be the same thing.”
A plan to build much of the city’s Olympic infrastructure along the river will be doomed if things aren’t solved, he said.
“Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner wants the international broadcast centre and the main press centre to be on the South Brisbane reach of the river, near Montague Road.
“They want to set up a basketball court, a brand new one, where the Albion Park trots and dogs were.
“Have they seen a photo of last week? It was under water!
“What the government needs to do is put all this other crap to the side and try and better flood-proof Brisbane.
“These questions were being asked in 1974 and guess what: there’s a review going on now to ask the same questions in 2022.”
