Psalty hits back at push for parents to teach kids about inflation
Peter Psaltis has pushed back on suggestions parents should explain inflation to their kids, regardless of their age.
Research has found nearly half of parents are avoiding conversations about things being tight at home because they don’t want to cause unnecessary angst.
But financial expert Yish Koh says parents should include their children in the solution.
“You can explain to your kids, ‘In order for us to afford these groceries, we’re going to need to reduce your pocket money a little’,” she said.
“‘But maybe instead of doing these chores, we can go out and look for bottles and do return and earn, which means you can still earn the same amount of money, but doing a different kind of chore’.”
Psalty admits he’s one of the 48 per cent who’s avoiding the topic of inflation with his kids and he doesn’t plan to change that any time soon.
“Don’t burden them with the stress and pressures that us as parents, carers and grandparents are under. Don’t throw all of our problems and issues onto them.”
