Police investigate alleged threat levelled at Redlands councillor
Police have received a complaint following allegations of a threat made to a Redland City councillor.
Cr Adelia Berridge has alleged she was threatened by another councillor about speaking to the media in regards to Mayor Karen Williams, who was last week charged with drink driving.
There is no suggestion the Mayor is involved in the threat allegations.
Councillor Berridge says she sought advice from the Office of the Independent Assessor, and she was advised to take the matter to the police.
“I have had to make a complaint to the police, there have been suggestions of holding and releasing information that could be damaging to people I know and people I work with, and I don’t take kindly to threats, nor do I ignore them,” she told Peter Fegan, filling in on 4BC Drive.
“But the matter is now with the criminal investigations team of Queensland Police under Section 415 of extortion, so it’s a very serious matter, and I have been advised not to speak about it.”
Meanwhile, Cr Berridge said she will be moving a motion on July 20 for a vote of no confidence in the mayor.
