Your driving style could save you real money at the petrol pump

The latest petrol price rises have made us more conscious of where we buy our petrol but importantly how you drive can also affect you in the hip pocket – here’s a few simple tips on how you can make your car go further on a litre of petrol.
First up, many drivers simply judge their speed from the car in front, think ahead, the idea is to make your car flow at a near constant speed, stop/start motoring uses fuel, so look ahead say five car lengths and judge your speed accordingly. Its more meaningful perhaps when you’re on the open road.
Importantly, don’t coast down a hill and plant your foot to get up the other side – best to keep a light throttle downhill and flow the car up the other side letting momentum mostly carry you up. And remember, at 120km/hour a car uses about 20per cent more fuel to one travelling at 100km/hour.
