World Diabetes Day

Professor Sof Andrikopoulos, CEO of the Australian Diabetes Society & Head of the Islet Biology and Metabolism Research Group at the University of Melbourne, joins Michael to discuss World Diabetes Day, the primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes and held on 14 November each year.
Diabetes, or diabetes mellitus in full, is a metabolic disorder characterised by an imbalance between levels of insulin, secreted by the pancreas, and blood sugars.
Insulin plays an important role in the body processing sugars from the bloodstream thus people with diabetes insulin levels tend to be lower and blood sugars higher.
