What were the 10 best-selling EV’s in the first nine months

David Berthon

Electric cars are on everyone’s mind at the moment given they represent nearly
every question I get on the new car market – should I or shouldn’t I buy an
electric car? In September they represented 8 per cent of the new vehicle market
with a September year-to-date tally of 65,743. Top selling EV’s year to date – The
Tesla Model Y SUV with 23,457 sales, followed by the Tesla Model 3 sedan with
14,540, the BYD Atto 3 SUV with 8706, then MG’s ZS SUV with 2356, Volvo’s XC40
Recharge with 2275, then the Polestar 2 with 1789, Kia’s EV6 with 1147 and
making the top ten Volvo’s C40 with 970. There are now 50 individual electric
nameplates from 24 different manufacturers. Most impressive is the fact that
BYD, a totally new brand on the Australian market commands third best EV seller
status.
