What is it about a Maserati?
What is it about a Maserati – Italian charm yes, strong performance, enormous competition history, an exhaust note that inspires and handling that leaves no doubt of its sporty pretensions. I’ve just driven several examples of this Italian car makers 2018 Ghibli S GranSport sedan. At $195,990 a very individual luxury sports sedan – The Ghibli S gets a more potent twin turbo 3.0-litre V6 built by Ferrari and now delivering 580 Nm peak torque – in eight speed automatic with manual paddles it accelerates to 100kmh in just 4.9 seconds. A full electronic suspension, new active safety elements and new electric power steering for the first time makes this a very nimble package – a sports sedan in the fullest sense. If you want individuality in your luxury car the Maserati Ghibli S offers it in spades whether in comfort and convenience features or in materials. Just 78 left showrooms in the first three months making this Maserati sports sedan a stand out against its German competition. I drove from Canberra to Sydney through Bungendore and Goulburn, the road at times choppy with broken edges but ride quality was at all times very comfortable despite the overtly sporty nature of the Ghibli’s suspension and low profile tyres. As I said earlier, if I was going to invest $200,000 in a luxury sedan I’d want it to be a little different. The Maserati Ghibli offers a real point of difference in a luxury sedan market dominated by German product – if you like driving the Maserati Ghibl S GranSport simply doesn’t disappoint.
