Voter ID pushed to the back-burner

Mike Jeffreys

Michael is joined by Senator James McGrath, Liberal Senator for Queensland & Chair of Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, following the government’s push to introduce voter ID laws prior to the next federal election being forced onto the back-burner.

The new laws would have required Australians to present a form of ID when voting to prevent voter fraud, however the bill has struggled partly due to rebel Liberal senators withholding their votes over vaccine issues.

“Voter ID laws are needed to empower voters, increase transparency, establish further safeguards, and create consistency”, says Senator McGrath.
