I spoke last week of Toyota’s substantial $9,000 price hike on its all-new small fourth-generation Yaris hatchback, the company following up this week with hefty increases on its 2021 CH-R hatch, RAV4 SUV and upgraded Prado and Fortuna 4WD’s. Interestingly, Toyota now intends to elevate its Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Program as the new entry point for the brand. Toyota Australia sales and marketing vice-president Sean Handley suggesting the used car division had achieved its 100,000th. sale since its launch in 2012 – a third of those priced under $20,000. He also pointed out that one in every seven people who buy a Toyota Certified pre-owned Vehicle come back and buy a new car within five years. Used cars generally are enjoying strong growth, data from Moody’s Analytics show a 30 percent lift in prices as buyer rush to avoid public transport and as new car dealers face stock shortages. July used car prices lifted 16.2 per cent on pre-pandemic prices.
