Toyota Kluger Grande hybrid AWD SUV, well worth the 12 month wait

DAVID BERTHON

Driving the Toyota Kluger Hybrid all-wheel-drive SUV, the top line Grande at
$80,230 however the most affordable Kluger Hybrid GX kicks off at $58,290. The
Kluger Hybrid utilises a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine plus an electric
motor on each axle – Toyota have really sorted the hybrid experience on many
models, impressive on the large seven-seat Kluger it provides economy around
town as low as 5.7L/100km, on the open road down to just 5.2L/100km but it does
need 95 grade petrol. Above all else, the Kluger is a really easy driver with an
exceptional ride, in fact ride and comfort are the hallmarks of this large Toyota
SUV, its ride and handling polished without being sporty and with a Father’s Day
load of grandkids it felt anchored, refined and confident on road, the E CVT
automatic also a surprise – making good use of the hybrid’s torque at lower revs
unlike many CVT’s that surge up the rev range. The Kluger Grande Hybrid is
sumptuously equipped and wants for little. It has a five-star ANCAP safety rating
while capped price servicing over five years will set you back just $1,325. But like
many Toyotas if you want one it will be a 12 month wait on order. I’m David
