Tips on Christmas holiday driving

David Berthon

So you’re about to head off on the family holiday – what you need to know is that fatigue is one of the biggest killers on the road. How many of us really consider how fatigued we are before we get behind the wheel. How often do we hear of a single vehicle fatal crash on a country road – that long drive suddenly turns into a tragedy. Falling asleep at the wheel is directly related to the time of the day you drive. Please don’t make the mistake of getting on the road straight after you’ve finished work and driving into the night. Research shows that the highest number of fatal crashes occur in the afternoon peak period – after a long hard week at work this is not the time to head off on that long drive – leave early morning when your energy levels are high after you’ve had a hearty breakfast – and please take a 15 minute break every two hours – your family deserves it. I’m David Berthon
