“They can’t just put their head in the sand”: Action needed for Australia’s growing fire ant problem

Clinton Maynard

A new fire ant infestation on the edge of the Murray Darling Basin has
prompted urgent calls for action after a federal inquiry found better funding and
research was needed for the pest’s eradication. The discovery of the ants at
Oakey, near Toowoomba on Queensland’s Darling Downs, on Friday, marked
the westernmost march of the invasive species and heightened fears that they
would use the region’s waterways to spread even further across Australia.

Agriculture, David Littleproud MP, joins Mike Jeffreys.
