The King opens up on State of Origin rivalry

Peter Fegan

NRL legend Wally Lewis has opened up on the State of Origin rivalry, telling 4BC Breakfast host Peter Fegan what it was like when fans would throw cans at the opposing team.

“When we knew, though, that the fans were throwing cans at New South Wales players, we felt pretty good,” he said.

He also revealed what he was thinking about on the day he decided to retire.

“I was thinking about it from the evening before … I just found out that my daughter Jamie Lee was profoundly deaf and it wasn’t something I felt comfortable about,” he added.
